Opening night of Dancing With Invisible Light was fucking spectacular! Pictopia was really full of people for most of the evening. I shared the story of the photoshoot many times and had great conversations with new people as well as old friends. The cupcakes by Idle Hands Baking Company brought much joy. This was my first time hearing Doctor Popular perform. I feel so honored that his performance was a part of the night. It was awesome and dancey. Part of the performance and other bits of the night are in video form on the Pictopia blog.
Thanks again to everyone who was part of the shoot and to the rockstars who helped me set up the show. Nicole Aptekar helped me cut the vinyl sign, and Christina Liu stayed up until 3:00am with me to help weed it (remove all the bits of vinyl that weren’t letters). Aaron Muszalski worked on promotion and with obtaining all of the necessary drinks and other supplies for the night. Genevieve Southwick, Michael Juarez, and Khris Brown were at Pictopia most of the day making the pile of prints turn into a show, by helping me finish framing and hanging. Christina Liu and Mike Estee arrived just in time to help put the finishing touches on the sign and the tags. Valerie Leavy facilitated print sales. Special thanks go to Pictopia and Damian Taylor for printing my work and hosting my first solo show, to Doctor Popular for the music, and to Idle Hands Baking Company for the cupcakes of joy! And thank you to everyone who came!
If you haven’t had a chance to see it yet, the show is up until April 29th.
Here’s my photos from the night:
